St. Augustine’s is involved in a variety of outreach. These include an Emergency Food Pantry which the Episcopal Church Women oversee, participation in the Women’s Hospitality Network, for homeless women and hosting the Alcoholic Anonymous group which has been meeting in the church for over 60 years. Along with meals at the Sunday Feeding Program we have over the years added other programs to include:

  • We provide warm winter apparel, as well as clothing all year round.

  • Jersey Shore Hospital and other health organizations have provided medical screenings.

  • We have also provided housewares and toiletries when available.

  • Christmas gifts for children and adults during the holidays have also been provided.

The Choir – provides music for the services each Sunday and on special occasions under the leadership of the organist. Choir music is provided primarily from the Church Hymnal as well as Lift Every Voice and Sing hymnal.  Other forms of music including gospel and “praise and worship” are sometimes included in the service. The Choir also participates in community and diocesan programs. Examples include Black History Month Community Programs, Asbury Park Jazz Concerts, and the Service of Witness for Black Ministry.

Every Sunday, with few exceptions, St. Augustine’s opens its doors to feed the community with a nutritious well balanced full-course hot meal. The program started about 1995 and we serve approximately 5,150 meals each year. Preparation for the Sunday meal is done by a small group of dedicated parishioners, who are assisted with the serving and cleanup by dedicated community volunteers. Much of the food used to prepare the meals is obtained from Fulfill (FoodBank) of Monmouth/Ocean Counties at a nominal cost. Fulfill provides excellent training in food handling and record keeping, enabling us to properly manage and administer this program. We also receive private donations from many organizations and individuals within and outside the church.
